1st Annual Cabin Fever Quilt Retreat - February 5-7, 2010*

*Retreat held rain, sun or snow. In event of big snowstorm, retreat will be re-scheduled for the 1st weekend in March

Escape the winter doldrums, get out of the house and QUILT! Held in scenic Weaverville, this retreat promises three days of sewing bliss. Sponsored by the Thursday Night Strippers Quilt Guild, this retreat is a great place to spend some time with other quilters and work on winter projects. Held at the Weaverville Fire Department Meeting Hall, this location has great natural lilght, ample bathrooms and a great kitchen where your meals will be prepared. Spacious and bright, there is lots of room to work. Cutting and ironing stations are provided by the sponsoring guild--just bring your sewing machine, gadgets and projects.

Cost of the event is only $35 plus one potluck dish per person for all 3 days and includes hall rental, all meals, oodles of snacks, a block mystery and mini-workshops to increase your quilting skills. Due to space limits, this retreat is limited to the first 35 quilters who sign up. Open to quilters from all the guilds of Trinity Couny & surrounding counties, we hope this becomes Trinity's annual "Super Bowl" of quilting!

Retreat Schedule

Friday February 5
The retreat opens officially at 3PM that afternoon for set up. The fun begins at 5:00 with a "happy hour" to relax, set up and get acquainted. Dinner at 6PM will be followed by introductions and show and tell. Afterwards, work on your projects or join in the Mystery Quilt. Quilt as late as you like!

Saturday February 6
The hall will be open at 8AM for those who like an early start, or sleep in as late as you like. Continental breakfast will be served from 8-10AM, so eat anytime you are ready. Lunch from noon-1PM will be a delectable soup & salad bar. The afternoon will feature a variety of free mini-workshops for those who are interested. A hearty dinner will be served at 6PM. Quilt as late as you like!

Sunday February 7
The hall will open at 9AM with a continental breakfast available 8AM-11AM. More mini-workshops, prizes and fun! Retreat ends at Noon with a "leftover luncheon", then drive safely home!

Mystery Quilt with Michele Barros Michele is well known for her fun mystery projects! Take the plunge and try this fun activity to get you warmed up for a weekend of quilting or to begin a new quilt that you can finish over the weekend. Michele has made arrangement to present a Debbie Caffrey design that you will love AND you can finish the quilt top during the retreat! Please let us know you want to participate in the mystery when you register so we can provide a materials list for you.

Perfect Bindings Made Easy with Brenda Houston Selecting and creating the perfect binding for your quilt can make or break your design. Learn types of bindings for different quilts and how to do perfectly mitered corners of any angle with ease. See a demo of how to create an "endless binding".

Flip & Fold Potholders with Cindy Andrews Every quilter needs to have this project in their bag of tricks. Quick to make and cute, they make great gifts and fundraising items. Flip out!

Color Pop with Bridget Carson You can use contrast to create a variety of visual effects in your quilts. Put color to work for you and learn to make quilts with "WOW".

Paper Piecing with Michele Barros Michelle will de-mystify the process of creating intricate piecing using paper patterns. This fun technique is easy when you see how it is done.

Mitered Corners for borders with Sue Rhodes Its easier than you think--how to accurately measure and cut for perfect angles and get artistic results for your quilt borders.

How to Register

Registration is limited to the first 35 to sign up, so don't wait! Cost of the retreat is $35 plus one potluck dish. What is Provided

The sponsoring guild will provide tables, chairs, ironing stations/irons, cutting stations and mats. All meals are provided as well as snacks, coffee, tea and bottled water. Door prizes and games will add to the fun (everyone will be a winner!). Be advised that alcohol cannot be served at the WVFD Hall.

From the North Valley: Take I-5 south to the 299/Eureka exit. Follow signs through Redding and merge onto 299-W (Eureka/Weaverville). Travel west on 299 about 45 min to Weaverville, 299 becomes Main Street in Weaverville. Turn left onto Bremer Street, then turn left again just before the bridge. The large metal building in front of you is the Fire Hall, park on the side of the building and come on in! Please do not park in front of the building, it blocks access to the firetrucks.
