Magic Numbers for Quilters

Endless Binding
To make "endless binding", begin to attach binding, leaving about 8" loose before starting to attach. Stop sewing binding about 8" from start point. Overlap both loose ends of the binding, trim overlap to equal width of binding (re: 2.5" binding, overlap by 2.5"). Now join the trimmed ends with a bias seam, trim, press and resume attaching binding. Works perfect every time!

Adding seam allowances to quilt pieces
For squares and rectangles, add 1.2" to the finished size of the pice

For 1/2 square triangles:
Cut a square 1-inch larger than the finished size of the short side of the desired triangle. Draw a line diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner and cut.
OR layer two squares and sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line, then cut on the line. Trim if needed

For Quarter-Square triangles:
Add 1 3/8-inches to the long side of the triangle to determine the size of the square you need. Cut the square on both diagonals.
