Happy
New Year to everyone! Now that 2009 is over, hope is returning that things will
get better in 2010.
2009 was a difficult year for many. It was an especially bleak year for small businesses and many have closed recently--we are very sorry to see them go, especially our neighbors here at the corner of Hwy 3 & 299--best wishes to Geoffrey of Bottle of Ink, Corky & Pat of Realty World and the Merediths who are all closing their storefronts to work out of their homes. I wish you all the best and will miss your company.
We, however, are here to stay! 2009 was a challenge requiring a very inventive fiscal approach, but thanks to the support of our great friends and customers, we made it through. Our sincere thanks to YOU for supporting us during a challenging time. We feel that if we could survive 2009, we can take on anything! So look for some big changes in 2010...
The first big change is that we are moving! But not far, in fact, not even out of the building. We will be moving to the front of the building into the space formerly occupied by Meredith Winery. We will enjoy more natural light, better exposure and easier access. Come by to see the new shop and the new look--we will be in by the first of February.
Quilt Pink
for a CureWe have a fun challenge for those of you who want to help the American Cancer Society & Relay for Life. Make a block for the cause and help fund research for cancer treatments and perhaps an ultimate cure!
The brainchild of Margaret Palmer (who also donated the great pink and purple fabrics-thanks Margaret!), this project will create a sampler quilt that can be raffled to raise funds for Relay for Life. Its easy to participate—just pick up your free packet of fabrics at Textile Traditions, create ANY kind of 12.5” block using any method (pieced, applique, fusible, etc). Use your imagination and get creative!
Bring your block in to the shop by February 13th and it will be included in the raffle quilt. We will have a quilt-creating party on Valentine's Day to assemble the quilt top. What a great way and a great day to show your love for those who are fighting cancer, and a great way to memorialize those friends and family who lost their lives to cancer.
Fabric packets are available now and each will contain a selection of pink & purple fabrics. You may add more fabric of your own, but try to use some of the fabric pieces provided for artistic continuity. First come, first served until packets gone. For more information on this project, call the shop at (530) 623-6454
Escape the winter doldrums, get out of the house and QUILT! Held in scenic Weaverville, this retreat promises three days of sewing bliss. Sponsored by the Thursday Night Strippers Quilt Guild, this retreat is a great chance to spend some time with other quilters and work on winter projects. Held at the Weaverville Fire Department Meeting Hall, this location has great natural lilght, ample bathrooms and a great kitchen where your meals will be prepared. Spacious and bright, there is lots of room to work. Cutting and ironing stations are provided by the sponsoring guild--just bring your sewing machine, gadgets and projects.
Cost of the event is only $35 plus one potluck dish per person for all 3 days and includes hall rental, all meals, oodles of snacks, a quilt mystery and mini-workshops to increase your quilting skills. Due to space limits, this retreat is limited to the first 30 quilters who sign up. Open to quilters from all the guilds of Trinity Couny & surrounding counties, we hope this becomes Trinity's annual "Super Bowl" of quilting!

Quilt Quote: “The simple pleasures of the every-day life of the colonists and their close touch with nature are reflected in their quilt-patch names. Great-grandmother had no movies, no automobiles, no airplanes, no radios; is it any wonder she wove her pleasure into patchwork quilts?” Carrie A. Hall & Rose G. Kretsinger, The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt
